A fine antique sterling silver salver in the elegant classical style typical of this well regarded maker. Hand engraved to the centre is a contemporary armorial within a drapery cartouche. Weight 887 grams, 28.5 troy ounces. Diameter 30.5 cm. Height 3.2 cm. London 1787. Maker John Scofield.

This beautiful silver tray is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The engraved crest is sharp. Stamped underneath with a full set of English hallmarks. There are a couple of very minimal dinks to the surface. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: John Scofield

John Scofield (or Schofield), highly prominent late 18th century London silversmith. No record of apprenticeship of freedom. 1st mark entered as plateworker in 1776 with Robert Jones. 2nd mark alone 1778. 3rd mark 1787. Well known for his impeccable craftsmanship and elegant restrained taste. His candlesticks and candelabra are highly prized.
