A fantastic quality pair of antique silver candle holders with shaped column and detachable nozzles. Decorated all over with shells and sea foam, the circular bases dotted with flower heads. Unusually heavy cast silver.
Weight 2455 grams, 78.9 troy ounces.
Height 29.8cm. Base 15.5cm.
London 1826/9.
Maker Joseph Cradock.
Sterling silver.
Marks. Both sticks are stamped at the bottom around the edge and have matching maker and consecutive dates 1826 and 1827, both nozzles are fully hallmarked for 1827.
Condition
The candlesticks are in very good condition.

Joseph Cradock, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. 1st mark entered in partnership with Thomas & Joseph Guest as plateworkers 1806, 2nd mark together 1808. 2nd partnership with william Ker Reid, 1st mark 1812, 2nd mark - 2 sizes 1819, 3rd mark 1824. Alone as plateworker 1st mark 1825, 2nd mark 1827. Joseph's son Charles Tyrwhitt Cradock was apprenticed to Alexander Thomas, silver planisher 1823.
