Description
Description
A full set of antique Georgian knives with sterling silver handles and stainless steel blades. Pistol handle style. 12 dinner knives length 24.3cm and 12 dessert knives length 20.8cm. Each has a hand engraved crest of a ‘hand’ to the front side. Maker John Rogers, the prestigious Sheffield cutlers company. Circa 1829.
Condition
This useful set of knives is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. All matching and fully functional. The knives have sterling silver handles with lion passant, Sheffield crown and maker marks only (some rubbed or badly stamped); the shape of the Sheffield crown and lion passant date the handles to the 1828/29 period. All pieces have hand engraved crests to one side. The stainless steel blades are later replacements (probably early 20th century) and have a few rust spots.
