Description
Incredible quality and weight. A pair of heavy antique sterling silver castors of octagonal shape. With a hand engraved coronet and fancy scroll work design to the front of each. One caster has a pierced top for pepper and the other has a blind cover for dry mustard. The quality of the detailed pierced work and engraving is exceptional and gives the overall impression that they are of Huguenot manufacture and of an outstanding maker such as Paul de Lamerie. Excellent colour. Weight 640 grams, 20.5 troy ounces. Height 16 cms. Fully marked underneath for London 1730. No makers mark.
Condition
These exceptional silver castors are in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. Excellent colour. They both have matching silver marks - the bases have the leopard's head, date letter and lion and the tops have the lion mark only. There is no maker's mark on either. The bases are marked 1 and 2. The engraving is still crisp and of excellent quality, there is a little wear on the outer edges due to the octagonal shape and handling. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
