A delightful pair of antique sterling silver serving dishes of circular form with a scalloped border. Good plain style. The centres have a hand engraved crest within a shield and decorative cartouche. Originally intended for strawberries and/or salad. Good colour. Weight 697 grams, 22.4 troy ounces. Diameter 22 cms. Height 3.5 cms. London 1767. Maker Francis Butty and Nicholas Dumee.

This charming pair of dishes is in very good condition with no damage or repairs. The engraving is still sharp. Both have a full set of clear and matching English silver hallmarks. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Francis Butty, London silversmith, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. 1st mark 1757 entered in partnership with Lewis Herne, address Clerkenwell Close. 2nd mark in partnership with Nicholas Dumee presumed circa 1758. Listed as Huguenot by Evans "Huguenot Goldsmiths". Nicholas Dumee, London silversmith, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. 1st mark with Francis Butty, unrecorded, soon after 1758. Bankrupt in 1773. 2nd mark in partnership with William Holmes as plateworkers 1773. 3rd mark alone 1776. Listed as Huguenot by Evans "Huguenot Goldsmiths”.
