English provincial silver. A plain styled provincial silver fish slice with fiddle design and pierced scroll decoration. Weight 130 grams, 4.1 troy ounces. Length 30 cms. Width 7 cms. Exeter 1846. Maker William Rawlings Sobey.

This useful antique serving slice is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. The silver marks are clear and easy to read. Maker: William Rawlings Sobey

William Rawlings Sobey (1811 – 1852), Exeter silversmith, born c.1811. His makers marks are registered from 1833 to about 1852. A contemporary of John Stone, he also manufactured spoons, butterknives and other flatware in the Fiddler and Old English patterns. William died in 1852 aged 41.
