Description

This decorative Victorian shell biscuit box opens to reveal a stunning interior. The naturalistic style frame has interlaced twig work and the body has embossed flowers and foliate scrolls. Silver plated with gold plated lining. Height 23 cms. Width 20 cms. Unmarked. Made in Sheffield, UK. Circa 1880.

Literature: Traditionally these boxes were kept by the fire to warm the biscuits. They usually have pretty pierced grills to keep the biscuits in place which can be lifted to access the contents.

Condition

This decorative box is in very good condition with no damage. The silver and gilt have no wear. The box has been re plated. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
