Description
An attractive crystal decanter and stopper with lock and key. The body is half thumbnail cut, half plain and has star cut base. The neck has a silver collar with a padlock attached. There is a hinged retaining clip which secures the glass stopper in position – the two ends of the clip fit side by side around the little bracket on the decanter neck so that the padlock can slot through the 3 holes (see photo). Just turn the key to lock or unlock the padlock.
Height 24.5cm. Base 9 x 9cm square.
London 1931.
Maker Walter Groves.
Sterling silver.
Marks. Stamped with matching English silver hallmarks on the neck and retaining clip. The little padlock is unmarked, it has a shiny silver colour but is not guaranteed.
Condition
This useful decanter is in very good condition. The glass is in very good condition but will have some minor wear. The locking mechanism works well. Using the little padlock is a bit fiddly at first but gets easier with practice .
