John Crouch & Thomas Hannam

Thomas Hannam completed his apprenticeship to John Café in 1761 and went into partnership with John Crouch in 1765. The firm was known particularly as makers of fine quality trays, salvers and waiters. Their earlier marks also appear on cast candlesticks, very likely due to Hannam’s apprenticeship to the Cafes.

    An elegant antique sterling silver tray of oval form and raised on splay feet. Classical style with a gadroon border and side carrying handles. The centre has deep hand chased decoration with flowers, leaves and scrolls. In the middle there is a very pretty shell engraved cartouche with an initial in old fashioned cursive script. Weight 2468 grams, 79.3 troy ounces. Spread across handles 61.5 cms. Length 52 cms. Width 38 cms. London 1804. Maker Hannam & Crouch.
