A handsome antique silver tankard of large size and good weight. Of plain form with baluster shape and a shaped handle. Bright colour. Hand engraved to the front is a monogram in old fashioned script within a decorative cartouche.
Contains 580 ml, over 1 imperial pint.
Weight 325 grams, 10.4 troy ounces.

Literature. The term “mug” is traditionally used for a single-handed, lidless drinking vessel. They are nearly all of either pint or half pint capacity. Antique silver mugs are very rarely found as early as tankards, the earliest seeming to date from about 1680
The silver mug is in very good condition. Stamped underneath with a full set of English silver hallmarks. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Francis Crump, apprenticed to Gabriel Sleath 1726, free 1741. 1st mark entered as largeworker 1741. 2nd and 3rd marks 1745/51. 4th mark, in oartnership with Gabriel Sleath1753. 5th mark alone 1756. 6th mark 1761. Married Sarah Bullbeck 1760, they had 4 children.
