    9646 Antique Enamel Opera Glasses

    Sold

    A beautiful pair of antique opera glasses made of gilt brass metal and enamel. The binocular tops and extension knob are made of real mother of pearl. The pink enamel barrels are covered in gilt stars and have beaded cartouches and borders containing hand painted sprays of multi coloured flowers. The underside is inscribed “REG Armstrong 14.August 1884”. Measures – width 10.4 cm, closed height 6.3 cm, extended height 8.5 cm. Probably French. Circa 1884. Retailer’s mark Sharman D Neill, Belfast.

    A late 19th century bright colour enamel and ormolu mantel timepiece with a portrait roundel to the front. The dial is painted with floral swags within a paste-set bezel. Platform lever escapement. Height 8 ½ in. (21.5 cm.). Width 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.). Depth 2 ½ in. (5.5 cm.). French. Circa 1890.

This attractive black and white checked niello decoration originated from Russia in the 10th century. Length 12.3 cms. Spread across the lenses 10 cms. Diameter of lense frame 4 cms. Marked with the silver grade “935” between the lenses and with a French control mark on the carrying loop. French. Circa 1890.

    A fantastic quality pair of French silver mounted glass claret jugs in the style of Victor Boivin, a leading French 19th century silversmith. Of globular form, on a circular foot, the glass is encased with a fine quality decoration of pierced silver flowers, leaves, scrolls and other motifs. Original gilt to the inside of the lid and neck. Each contains 800 ml. Height 32cm. Spread across the handle 15.5cm. With French silver stamps. Maker or retailer’s stamp “HTO”. Circa 1890.

    7517 Antique French Silver Claret Jug

    A pretty 19th century claret jug with decorative silver mount and pedestal foot. Original gilt inside the lid. The silver mounts have naturalistic sea spray decoration, the top with a cartouche to the front having engraved initials and the base with the inscription “Bordeaux 1899”. The lid has a shell finial. The glass body has deep swirls which compliment the silver design. Contains 750 ml. Height 29 cms. Diameter of base 8.5 cms. Marked on lid, neck and base with French silver stamps and makers mark RB within a lozenge. Circa 1900.

    A stunning pair of antique wall mirrors of tall shaped form (girandoles), each mounted with two pairs of candle sconces. Decorated in the flamboyant rococo style, the scrolling high relief ornament has fretwork, sea foam and stalactites. Mounted at the top is a winged cherub and below the mirror is a figural plaque. Height 65 cm. Width 34 cm. Mirror height 30 cm, width 18 cm. Probably French. Circa 1900.

    A charming pair of antique silver figural pepperettes of seated squirrels holding a nut in their paws. Each has a hinged compartment below to put the pepper. The nut has some holes where the pepper is poured. Weight 156 grams, 5.0 troy ounces. Height 8 cms. Marked on the edge of the bottom flap with a French silver stamp. Circa 1910.

    A fine pair of French silver table ornaments modelled as game birds with articulated wings. High grade 950 silver (purer than 925 sterling silver). Large size and excellent weight. These models are very realistic and have fine chased detail. Weight 1443 grams, 46.3 troy ounces. Male bird height 19 cms, length 39 cms. Female bird 18.5 cms, length 40 cms. Stamped with French silver stamps on the wing and tail feather. Maker Ernest Eschwege. Circa 1920.

The branches unscrew but the columns cannot be used as candlesticks. Height 41 cms, spread 28 cms. The weight of the branches is 991 grams, 31.8 troy ounces, the bases are filled and therefore cannot be weighed. French silver stamps. Circa 1930.
