    7873 Antique Silver Betel Box

    Sold

    An ornate antique silver box having 3 compartments with double hinged lids. The body is heavily chased with flowers and leaves and the handles are formed as a flower head and leaf. Excellent quality and weight. The tall centre finial acts as a locking mechanism and the lids won’t open until this has been unscrewed and removed. Unmarked silver. Circa 19th century. Probably Indian.

    An excellent quality antique silver teapot with the popular melon shape popular during the first half of the 19th century. Extremely heavy gauge silver. With a simple plain form this pot is embellished with a pretty flower finial, acanthus leaf mount to the handle and a decorative cast foot. Contains 1500 ml. Very heavy weight 1258 grams, 40.4 troy ounces. Height 17.5 cms. Spread 31.5 cms. Diameter of top 20 cms.
    Indian silver makers mark P&Co for Pittar & Co, lion passant, Roman A and workers tally mark. Circa 1825-1848.

    Of colonial interest. An excellent quality large silver tankard with all over grape vine decoration. Very large and heavy. Original bright gilt interior. Applied cast silver foot and handle with bark detail. To the front is an inscription in old fashioned script. Contains 900 ml. Weight 819 grams, 26.3 troy ounces. Height 14.5 cm. Diameter of top 10 cm. Spread across handle 15.5 cm. Circa 1857. Stamped underneath with the maker Allan & Hayes – colonial silversmiths working in Calcutta, India during the mid 19th century.

    9398 Antique Colonial Silver Goblet

    A rare antique silver chalice of plain form, the stem and underbody having an unusual naturalistic design of acorns and foliage. Very thick gauge cast silver. Contains 865 ml. Weight 519 grams, 16.6 troy ounces. Height 17 cm. Diameter 9.2 cm. Marked on the bottom rim with Indian silver marks for Hamilton & Co, Calcutta. Circa 1860. A very similar style of goblet was made in England during the 1860’s by John Samuel Hunt and retailed by ‘Hunt & Roskell Late Storr & Mortimer’.

    A 19th century silver mounted ostrich egg with pedestal foot; the top having a finial in the form of a model ostrich bird. The silver is lavishly decorated with flowing scrolls, rosettes and foliate detail. Height 29cm to top of finial. Unmarked silver. Probably Indian circa 1890.

Around the top is a presentation inscription for the Calcutta Races 1896. Underneath there is an engraved flower design. Weight 1729 grams, 55.5 troy ounces. Height 19cm. Diameter of top opening 2.7cm, 17cm (top rim). Unmarked silver. Indian or Burmese. Circa 1896.

Very charming with snake handles and elephant finials, the embossed decoration has elephants, lions, fish and palm trees. Total weight of set 913 grams, 29.3 troy ounces. Teapot contains 500 ml, height 13 cms, spread 21 cms. Unmarked silver. Indian, circa 1900.

    Of colonial interest. A delightful antique silver teapot with embossed decoration all over of a hunting scene. With a snake handle and coiled snake finger rest (to assist pouring) on top. The decoration is very charming with the palm tree forest inhabited by elephants, lions, rabbits, a boy with a spear and a deity with wings. Contains 750 ml. Weight 515 grams, 16.5 troy ounces. Height 12 (to top of snake). Spread 25 cms. Unmarked silver. Indian, probably Kutch. Circa 1900.

    Of colonial interest. A delightful antique silver teapot with embossed decoration all over of a hunting scene. With an elephant finial and stylised elephant handle and spout. The body has an interesting decoration of a jungle inhabited by elephants, lions and wild cows; to one side there is an elephant, with his mahout, and riding on the howdah* a hunter is taking aim at a group of lions, on the other side the man on horseback is shooting a gun and is accompanied by his hunting dog. Weight 547 grams, 17.5 troy ounces. Height 11 (to top of finial). Spread 23.5 cms. Stamped underneath with Indian silver marks for Bombay. Circa 1900.

    An attractive little miniature silver chest with a domed hinged lid and round feet. The filigree silver is worked in decorative loop patterns. With a hinged front catch and top handle. The interior is gilded. Weight 20 grams, 0.6 troy ounces. Height 2.5cm (top of lid) 3.7cm (top of handle). Base 3.4 x 2cm. Unmarked silver. Probably Indian. Circa 1920.
