Antique Silver Tazzas or Compotes have a raised flat top or bowl and are generally used to serve cakes, desserts and fruit.

Antique Silver Vases for flowers were introduced to the dining table during the 19th century. They can be either solid form or pierced silver with glass liners. They can have matching lids for sideboard display when not in use, these are sometimes referred to as chestnut urns.

An outstanding piece of early English silver. A rare antique silver tazza, dating from Charles II period, having a plain form, thick gadroon borders, and a bright gilt finish. To the centre is a large, hand engraved coat of arms within a plumage feathers cartouche, very typical of the period. The quality of the piece is excellent and the finish is very crisp. Weight 1135 grams, 36.4 troy ounces. Diameter 33cm. Height 6.2cm. Sterling silver. London 1667. A very interesting early continental dish of octagonal form having ribbed borders and pressed decoration. Large size. The spreading foot has matching ornament with matted detail, it is fixed to the top with the original rivets. The silver is of thin gauge which is typical of some early continental silver. Weight 644 grams, 20.7 troy ounces. Height 8 cm. Width 33 cm. Stamped on the edge with Silesian silver marks for Streigau, makers mark, the initials “FW” and assay scrape, circa 1730.

These heavy dishes resemble from the top a giant circular flower petal with a single flower embossed to alternate segments. The pedestal foot has a pretty flower and leaf decoration and to the front there is an engraved crest and the motto “fortuna sequatur”. Weight 1640 grams, 52.7 troy ounces. Height 13 cms. The front panel contains the figure of a Greek deity and there are names etched below the panels. The silver lid is mounted with an entwined serpent and an inset piece of mother of pearl. Of horse racing interest. A superb pair of large antique sterling silver presentation vases with covers. Each trophy has a tall vase shape on a pedestal foot and flying side handles. The embossed decoration is particularly fine with ribbons and swags of harebells, there is a band of acanthus leaves around the bottom. Each side there is a plaited ribbon cartouche containing, to the front, a coat of arms with crest and to the back, a presentation inscription. These vases, or chestnut urns, are very large and suitable to stand a bottle inside. Weight 1784 grams and 1705 grams, total 3489 grams, 112.1 troy ounces. Height 40 cms with lid, 29.2 cms without lid. Spread across the handles 23 cms. Stamped with a full set of matching English silver hallmarks on each vase and each lid for London 1896. A beautiful antique silver epergne set with a matching pair of tall dishes. The pierced decoration is particularly attractive with flowers, scrolls and heart shaped ornament. The epergne has five bowls which can be detached and used separately. The pair of tazzas are raised on tall decorative feet and have a shaped cast border. There is a presentation inscription on the centrepiece front and all the dishes are engraved to the centre with a monogram of entwined letters in old fashioned script. Total weight 3,153g, 101.3 troy oz.

An excellent quality antique silver vase modelled after the famous Roman antiquity discovered at Tivoli during the 18^th century. Heavy gauge silver and exquisite detail. Small size. Of typical campana form with entwined vine handles, the vase is applied with Bacchanalian heads and flaming torches, below which there is a lion’s head and paws to front and back on a background of hand executeded lion’s “fur”.
