    9572 Antique Charles II Silver Boxes

    A very rare matching pair of early antique silver boxes of octagonal form, with pull off tops, dating from the reign of King Charles II. Good size and weight. Sterling silver. Simple plain form with a large hand engraved armorial within tied plumage feathers, very typical of the date. Superb antique colour. At this date boxes of this type would have originally been part of an extensive toilet service. Total weight 645 grams, 20.7 troy ounces. Height 6.3 cm. Width of top 12.7/13.5 cm. London 1675.     A fine antique silver drinking beaker with bright original gilding. Half ribbed decoration with swags of foliate scrolls on a stipple background. Weight 85 grams, 2.7 troy ounces. Height 5.5 cm.     Excellent quality antique commemorative shovel with ebonised and carved wooden handle. Silver plated. Life size. Presentation inscription to the front of the spade. The decorative mounts have intricate engraved borders, the deeply chased decoration with flowers and leaves. Length 89 cms. Width 18 cms. Stamped on the reverse with silver plate marks for S.     A rare early English silver chamberstick (or “go to bed”) with the solid design and heavy gauge silver you’d expect from this date. Sterling silver. It has the early form with flat teardrop handle. The circular pan has a gadrooned border and ribbed sconce, all mounted on three small stump feet. Hand engraved to the centre are 3 ornamental cyphers. Weight 222 grams, 7.1 troy ounces. Diameter 10.8 cm, 4.25 inches. Length 17 cms. London 1696. Maker Pierre Harache.

    A stunning pair of antique wall mirrors of tall shaped form (girandoles), each mounted with two pairs of candle sconces. Decorated in the flamboyant rococo style, the scrolling high relief ornament has fretwork, sea foam and stalactites. Mounted at the top is a winged cherub and below the mirror is a figural plaque. Height 65 cm. Width 34 cm. Mirror height 30 cm, width 18 cm. Probably French. Circa 1900.

    Large size. An antique horn snuff mull with a silver mount and hinged lid. The attached chain has a small snuff spoon, bone hammer and silver mounted rabbits foot. The lid has a cut out silver mount with thistles, also a silver shield with crest and motto “MANU FORTI”. Around the top rim is a hand engraved inscription dated 1838. Spread 18 cm. Diameter 7 cm.     A William IV sterling silver 4 piece tea service of compressed bellied form with cast borders and scrolling feet. The chased decoration is very beautiful with acanthus scrolls and flower heads. The tea and coffee pots have pretty flower finials, the milk jug and sugar bowl have the original bright gilt interior. Each has a hand engraved crest to the front and a monogram in old fashioned script to the reverse. Total weight 2694 grams, 86.6 troy ounces.
