    An unusual pair of antique silver plated nutcrackers with a finely modelled head of a parrot at the top. To use – simply place the nut inside the parrot’s jaw and squeeze the handgrip. Length 14.8cm. Stamped Asprey, registered design number 598487. English. Circa 1910. Silver plated.

    A fine and realistic antique tortoise table bell modelled with a solid sterling silver shell and a body made from bronze effect steel. The underside holds a clockwork winding mechanism that sounds the bell when the head or the tail is pressed. Spread 17.5 cms. Height 6 cms. Shell measures 9.3 x 11.5 cms.     8599 Antique German Silver Nef Sailing Ship

    Sold

    A superb sterling silver galleon ship, known as a Nef, intricately modelled with 2 tall masts having multi section sails and long boom, manned crows nests, flags and rigging. Each mast has a man climbing up a tall ladder. On the upper deck the helmsman is steering the ship while the other sailors carry out their duties. A central staircase connects the two decks. Around the edge is a decorative pierced gallery and below this, the port holes with their cannons ready for battle. There is a large armorial plaque to the rear of the hull with the motto “Honi soit qui mal y pense”.

The top of the hull measures – length 31.5cm x width 14.3 cm (at the widest point).The nef has multiple silver stamps including London import marks, on the bottom edge of the top section and the body of the hull, for 1913. Importer Berthold Muller.
    The top section of the Neff can be removed from the hull. The hull of the ship is realistically engraved with timber effect planks and graining; the interior is gilded, the rudder is in the form of a dolphin, the anchor is attached by a chain. The ship has 10 cannons and stands on four decorative wheels.

    An outstanding item. A comprehensive set of sterling silver cutlery for 12 people in an attractive plain style with scalloped ends. Total 109 silver pieces plus a set of 12 dinner and dessert knives. Each piece (excluding knives and fish cutlery) has an engraved crest and motto “Nil Sine Labore”. All in a marvellous fitted wooden box in the form of a miniature bureau with inlays and serpentine front. Weight excluding knives and fish cutlery 4368 grams, 140.4 troy ounces. Most of the silver pieces are Sheffield 1913-1924, maker Henry Atkins.

    An attractive model silver bird with detachable head and glass eyes. Inside there is a silver grill so that the bird can be used as a shaker (possibly for sugar). Beautifully modelled, the bird has very realistic plumage, the wings are applied separately but do not open. Stamped on the head and rim with Dutch silver stamps for 1919.

    An excellent pair of model knights in full armour with hinged visors and carved faux ivory faces. Fantastic workmanship and decorative detail. Each knight has a different suite of armour and carries different weapons – shield, axe, sword, ball and chain. Traces of the original gilding. Total weight 1059 grams, 34 troy ounces. Heights 23, 24.5 cms (with visor closed). Base 7 x 7 cms. Marked around the edge of the base with import marks for London 1920 and Berthold Hermann Muller.

    A magnificent sterling silver model of a knight in armour mounted on a rearing horse. The knight’s helmet has a hinged visor and inside you can see his carved faux ivory face. Excellent weight and figurative detail. Part gilded on the hoofs, saddle and bridal. Weight 1238 grams, 39.8 troy ounces. Height 21.5 cms (24.5 cms to top of flag). Base 16.5 x 8 cms. Marked on the front edge of the base “STERLING”, 925 and “GERMANY”. Circa 1920.
