A large and handsome antique sterling punch bowl in the early 18th century style with lions mask side handles, typical ribbed body decoration and a decorative cartouche to the front. The shaped scalloped rim is detachable; this is used to hold stem glasses, punch ladle and lemon squeezer and a bowl of this type is referred to as a Monteith. A very smart antique silver tray of oval shape with a bevelled glass centre and silver ball feet. The pierced silver gallery has a bead border, interlaced scroll design and inset carrying handles. Underneath the border is reinforced with a brass ring. Length 56.5 cm. Width 42 cm. Height 6 cm. Stamped on the side of the handles with Dutch silver marks and the date letter “L” for 1845. Silver grade 934 (this is purer than sterling silver which is 925 parts out of 1000).

A rare and stunning set of antique dessert cutlery made from antique Japanese kosuka handles with English sterling silver blades. 36 pieces, 18 knives and 18 forks, all fitted in a solid wood box with velvet lining. The shibuichi* metal handles are very beautiful; with bronze, copper, silver and gold patination and having raised, inlaid decorative motifs such as figures, fish, dragons etc; some are very interesting such as the man ploughing a field with a horse, fishermen at sea in a boat.
