The hand engraved border has a detailed band of scrolls, shells and matting with mythical face masks to the corners and erupting volcanoes to the sides. A fine pair of antique silver serving dishes and covers on warming bases. Large size, excellent quality and good gauge silver. Elegant plain styling, with a broad band of ribbing and gadroon borders, and topped with a magnificent lion mounted handle. The warming bases are typical of the period and have discreet wooden pad feet and carrying handles. The covers both have a large coat of arms hand engraved to the front and an arm crest topped by a crown to the reverse side, the plates also have the matching crest. Silver weight 6,124 grams, 196 troy ounces. Total height 24cm. Silver dome on serving plate height 19cm. Diameter – dome 28cm, dish 31cm. Plates – sterling silver London 1774 by Thomas Heming. It’s very rare to find a chamberstick complete with the original snuffer scissors, let alone a matching pair! These elegant antique silver chambersticks have plain classic styling, bead borders and a plain C scroll handle with a thumb piece. To the front of the pan is a hand engraved armorial crest. The candle nozzle is detachable and the snuffer has a little side handle. The snuffer scissors, also known as a wick trimmer, are part made of silver, and part iron. The very nice period features include the heart shaped supports at the base of the twin side handles and the little flower shaped nut attaching the silver foot to the coconut.
