A particularly rare novelty cocktail shaker in the form of a 1930s fire extinguisher. Eight classic cocktail recipes are revealed by simply turning the base. In addition, there is a cigar lighter hidden inside the top – just undo the little screw nut to find the wick. Asprey & Co. introduced the satisfyingly expensive ‘Thirst Extinguisher’ to their luxury range in 1932. Height 41 cms. Silver plated.

An outstanding item. A comprehensive set of sterling silver cutlery for 12 people in an attractive plain style with scalloped ends. Total 109 silver pieces plus a set of 12 dinner and dessert knives. Each piece (excluding knives and fish cutlery) has an engraved crest and motto “Nil Sine Labore”. All in a marvellous fitted wooden box in the form of a miniature bureau with inlays and serpentine front. Weight excluding knives and fish cutlery 4368 grams, 140.4 troy ounces. Beautifully modelled, the bird has very realistic plumage, the wings are applied separately but do not open. Stamped on the head and rim with Dutch silver stamps for 1919.

An attractive crystal decanter and stopper with lock and key. The body is half thumbnail cut, half plain and has star cut base. The neck has a sterling silver collar with a padlock attached. There is a hinged retaining clip which secures the glass stopper in position – the two ends of the clip fit side by side around the little bracket on the decanter neck so that the padlock can slot through the 3 holes (see photo).
