A magnificent pair of antique silver plated salts cast in the form of Neptune and his wife Amphitrite both riding on dolphins. Large size and excellent quality. Each figure is carrying a raised shell which forms the salt container (gilded inside). Heavy weight. The rocky design bases are encrusted with shells and other marine foliage and within the decoration each has a silver plate stamp. Circa 1860. Probably by Richard Hodd & William Linley.

A fantastic pair of antique German silver table ornaments in the form of large model knights in armour, each astride a galloping horse. Gilded silver (slightly worn) with jewelled beads. The knights have carved bakalite faces and helmets with hinged visors which can be opened and closed; in the right hand they each hold a jousting pole, or lance, and in the left they clasp the horse’s reins. The models are very intricate with many separate pieces assembled together. The bases have a naturalist finish. Although similar in size and stance, these models have slight differences. One horse carries a plume on the crest of its head whereas the other sports a bird figure on the head. Weight 1405 and 1411 grams, total weight 2816 grams, 90.5 troy ounces. Height 25 and 25.5cm. A very fine quality pair of antique Viennese carved ivory figures, studded with gemstones, and mounted on enamelled silver pedestal bases. Each figure carries a silver and enamel wickerwork pannier and holds a silver basket filled with hardstone fruits. The man also holds a pearl and gemstone mounted silver walking stick. An antique silver model of a windmill mounted on a wine cup. Hand engraved. Beautifully constructed with multiple moving parts. The windmill house is reached by a staircase with two sculptured figures climbing up, on one side there is a man peeping out of a small window. The revolving windmill sails connect to the clock hands on the other side and both move together. The roof is mounted with a revolving flag, a tiny bird and a sculptured finial. There is a horn which is non-functional. Weight 203 grams, 6.5 troy ounces. Height 22.5 cm. Diameter of cup 8.5 cm. Fully stamped with Dutch silver marks fpr Amsterdam. Circa 1890.

7776 Antique German Silver Neff Sailing Ship

This is a superb solid silver galleon ship, known as a Nef), with a tall mast having multi section sails, a manned crows nest and rigging. The deck is beautifully modelled with people and equipment – to the rear the captain is steering the ship’s wheel with a lantern behind him, and on the prow a sailor is standing next to the ships cannon, the anchor hangs below. Around the edge of the deck there is a pierced gallery decorated with cherubs and flowers.
The top section of the Neff can be removed from the hull. The hull of the ship is finely chased with cherubs and leaves, flowers and scrolls and the interior is gilded. The ship stands on four decorative wheels.
Weight 577 grams, 18.5 troy ounces. Height 24.5 cms. Spread 25 cms. Top of the hull measures 18 x 6 cms. The hull has a set of German hallmarks with maker’s mark for Neresheimer. The bottom edge of the top section has the silver grade “13”. Circa 1900.

A rare form of this highly collectible item modelled as a lady with a crinoline dress with a beautifully engraved skirt. However, to the other side the figure has the face of a man. The cup is hinged with long arms which swivels so that the top half rotates under which there is a second small cup. This can then be used as a traditional marriage cup. Weight 54 grams, 1.7 troy ounces. Height 7 cms. Diameter of base cup 4 cms. Spread when open 10.5 cms. Marked around the base with a Dutch control mark. Circa 1900.

An exceptional pair of antique German silver table ornaments in the form of large model knights in armour, each astride a galloping horse. These are particularly nice examples in terms of size and also the quality of workmanship. The knights have faux ivory faces and helmets with hinged visors which can be opened and closed; in the right hand they each hold a jousting pole, or lance, and in the left they clasp the horse’s reins. The models are very intricate with many separate pieces assembled together such as the sword, jousting pole, sword, stirrups and horse bridal. The bases have a naturalist finish representing a grassy field with frogs and lizards and around the bottom edge there is a pierced silver panel with trailing foliage.
Although similar in size and stance, these models are significantly different in the decoration of the war horse armour and head embellishments. One horse carries a tall plumed cone on the crest of its head and bears a heraldic plaque on its haunches whereas the other sports a bird figure on the head and lacks any armorial detail.
Weight 1474 and 1465 grams, total weight 2939 grams, 94.5 troy ounces. Height 34 cms. Spread 18.5 cms excluding the lance. Base 20.3 x 10 cms. Marked on top of the base with German silver marks crown, moon, silver purity mark “800” (800/1000) and Germany. Makers mark “n” for Neresheimer. Circa 1900.
