A rare early English sterling silver basket of oval form having a swing handle and rope borders. With a lattice work and pierced cutwork decoration. Although a few earlier examples exist this type of basket is not generally found until the mid 18th century – at this time they were used mainly for bread and fruit. The detailed workmanship on these is quite exceptional and they sit very well in the hand. Each is hand engraved to the front with the crest of a lion over a crown. A superb quality silver bowl or alms dish by the sought after Huguenot silversmith Paul de Lamerie. Heavy gauge metal and a plain solid foot. The reeded rim has applied shell and scroll ornaments and to the underside there are applied acanthus leaves. The top has a fine quality border of hand engraved motifs with trellis hatching together with a matching inner circle. A rare matched set of six Hanoverian pattern three pronged forks. Sterling silver. Lovely early English style. Five with a hand engraved crest to the reverse. Total weight 359 grams, 11.5 troy ounces. Length 18.8–19 cms (some minor variation). 4 forks with mixed dates 1740-1747, 2 forks with unreadable dates. Mixed makers, some unidentified.
Table silver of this date was stamped with “up the handle” silver marks which were punched on the thin central part of the handle and it is not unusual that these stamps are distorted or badly struck and difficult to read.

The cinquefoil frame has 4 shell feet and a shaped decorative cartouche, with matching armorial, to the front. Total weight of silver 1814 grams, 58.3 troy ounces. Castors height 18.5 and 16 cms. The silver bottle tops are unmarked, they are crested and the tops fit perfectly into the silver frame.
There is a hand engraved armorial on the 3 castors and cartouche of the frame and a crest on the top of the oli and vinegar bottles.
