    A late 19th century Chinese export silver rose water sprinkler. The lower body and foot are finely chased with repousse floral decoration, and the tall slender top has a cast and applied bird with the little sprinkler holes. Weight 70 grams, 2.2 troy ounces. Height 16.5 cms. Stamped underneath with Chinese silver marks and makers mark MK.

    8571 Victorian 4 piece Silver Tea Set in the style of Edward Farrell

    An outstanding quality antique sterling silver tea service of gourd shape, depicting Teniers style Dutch tavern scenes. The sides are deeply chased in relief, the handles cast as drunken peasants perched on tree branches, the teapot and coffee pot with ivory insulators and drunken figure finials, original pale gilt interiors. The drunken revellers are drinking, playing music, playing cards, womanising; there is a mother and child, even a giant dog. Every scene is different. The teapot and milk jug a have Bacchus face mask mounted spout. This very heavy set weighs 4,024 grams, 129.3 troy ounces. Teapot height 19.5 cms, spread 26 cms. Coffee pot height 26 cms, spread 25 cms. London 1890. Maker John Aldwinckle & Thomas Slater.

    A magnificent antique silver centrepiece of oval form supported by 4 large dolphins. The quality of this piece is excellent. The base has a shaped band of embossed gadroon decoration and the feet are in the form of gush of water ejected from the dophin’s mouth. On top there is a fine quality cut glass bowl. Weight of silver 1528 grams, 49.1 troy ounces. Total height 18 cms. Base 34 x 26.5 cms. Glass bowl 31.5 x 23 cms. German silver stamps crown and moon. Silver fineness “800”*. Circa 1890.

    A 19th century Russian (Georgia) silver filigree casket of rectangular form and raised on four scroll feet. The quality of the filigree work is exquisite. The hinged lid with domed centre has an applied flower to each corner and to the centre. There is a folding catch to the front and swing handles either side. Weight 234 grams, 7.5 troy oz.     7125 Victorian Silver Plated Travelling Picnic Set

    From a design by Dr Christopher Dresser. An antique silver plated automobile set beautifully arranged with many of the pieces slotting inside each other. All in the original leather covered carrying case. Each piece with an engraved monogram and crest. There is a similar set by Dr Christopher Dresser in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (see photos). Kettle height 9 cms (14.5 cms with handle), contains 1 pint. Teapot height 7.5 cms, contains half a pint. Stamped underneath with silver plate stamps for Hukin and Heath, a design number and a Victorian registration mark. Circa 1890.

    7326 Victorian Silver Plated Lamp

    A tall and handsome antique silver plated Corinthian column lamp with a square stepped base having gadroon border and classical urn and swag motifs. Excellent quality and crisp definition on the Corinthian top. The cut crystal oil reservoir has a screw fitting to the column and the top still retains the original mount, marked Hinks patent, for the oil burner fitting (not supplied). Height 56 cms, 44 cms without the glass top. Base 16 x 16 cms. Circa 1890. Base unmarked.

    7471 Antique Silver and "Raeren" Stoneware Jug

    Sold

    An antique English amphora jug or vase in the manner of Jan Emens Mennicken, German, 1540–1593, the body with decorative armorial medallions dated 1588 and 1594, the 3 handles dated 1590. With a sterling silver foot and collar and a detachable silver lid. This jug was in the collection of Sir Charles Jackson, the author of the esteemed book on English silver hallmarks. Height 38 cms. Spread across handles 18 cms. Diameter of base 12 cms. Makers mark only – “IM” over a billet and pellet. The silver marks are recorded in Jacksons for 1594 however the vase is a later copy circa 1890 by Hubert Schiffer. Schiffer ran a small workshop in Raeren specialising in copies of renaissance originals. Examples of his work are rare and were often damaged on purpose to make them look ‘authentic’. There is a similar vase in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (see accompanying documentation).

    Literature: Sir Charles Jackson: ‘An Illustrated History of English Plate’, published 1911, vol. II, page 781, figure 1015, where the author compares the makers mark to that on the communion flagon at Westwell.
