A rare set of antique sterling silver teaspoons with shell bowls. The end of each handle is decorated with an unknown figure. Weight 118 grams, 3.7 troy ounces. Length 11.5 cms. All marked up the handle with maker’s mark and lion passant although not very clear. Probably James Jones (mark registered May 1755).

A rare early English sterling silver basket of oval form having a swing handle and rope borders. With a lattice work and pierced cutwork decoration. Although a few earlier examples exist this type of basket is not generally found until the mid 18th century – at this time they were used mainly for bread and fruit. The hand engraved border has a detailed band of scrolls, shells and matting with mythical face masks to the corners and erupting volcanoes to the sides. The lid has a hand engraved cartouche, with tassles and a bishop’s hat, containing an armorial almost certainly for Bishop Dominique d’Inguimbert. Weight 618 grams, 19.8 troy ounces. Height 9.2cm. A plain style pair of antique sterling silver asparagus tongs (or chop tongs) with a corrugated inside surface to grip the food. Very simple and clever manufacture that would suit either a left or righted handed person. Weight 114 grams, 3.6 troy ounces. Length 21.5 cms. One side is stamped with the makers initials “IH” and the lion mark; the other side is double struck with the makers mark. Maker probably John Hague, circa 1760.

A handsome antique silver cruet set with a matching set of 3 silver casters and 2 silver topped and faceted crystal oil and vinegar bottles. The cinquefoil frame has 4 shell feet and a shaped decorative cartouche containing a hand engraved armorial. An unusual feature is that one small caster has been fitted with a plain inner sleeve; this is known as a “blind caster” which is the earliest form of mustard pot.
