    An elegant antique sterling silver wine strainer, or port strainer, with plain styling and simple thumbpiece. Excellent classic style as you’d expect from the prestigious lady silversmith Hester Bateman. This wine funnel is made in three detachable parts – the strainer, funnel and a rare feature is the additional detachable ring which was used for holding the muslin securely. Handsome plain design with reed and gadroon borders. To the front there is a hand engraved crest. Weight 96 grams, 3.1 troy ounces. Height 12 cms. Diameter 8 cms. London 1770. Maker Hester Bateman.

    An antique silver model of a marriage cup modelled as a bearded gentleman with outstretched arms holding a cup that swivels. His richly decorated jacket and waistcoat sit over a long skirt which is the inverted drinking cup. Excellent quality and good weight. Parcel gilt. Weight 483 grams, 15.5 troy ounces. Height 31.5 cm. Stamped on the bottom of the skirt with German silver marks. Circa 1890.

    An excellent set of 3 antique silver castors with pierced removable tops. *Britannia standard silver. Classic plain style. Very heavy gauge. To the front of each there is a hand engraved bird crest. An unusual feature is that one small caster has been fitted with a plain inner sleeve; this is known as a “blind caster” which is the earliest form of mustard pot. Tall castor – height 17.5 cms.     A handsome antique sterling silver samovar of circular form having a folding raffia finish handle. Excellent quality deep chased decoration. The end of the curved spout is modelled in the form of a bird. The front has a large hand engraved cartouche containing a family armorial. The matching stand has an ornate cast and pierced frieze with face masks, and stands on large shell feet; the integral oil reservoir has a push on top with a crest. Contains 2100 ml. Weight 1950 grams, 62.7 troy ounces. Total height 35.5 cm (handle extended)/ kettle height 26 cm (handle extended), 19 cm (to top of kettle finial). London 1742. Maker Charles Hatfield. His work is comparatively rare and shows signs of Huguenot influence.
