An antique silver model of a marriage cup having a queen in a crinoline dress with attractive decorative skirt and apron. Excellent quality and good weight. Small size. Parcel gilt. Weight 44 grams, 1.4 troy ounce. Height 10.25 cms. Diameter of base cup 3.5 cms. Stamped on the bottom of the skirt with continental silver marks. The small cup is stamped “13”. Circa 1850.

An extremely rare early English chalice dating to the reign of Elizabeth I. It is quite remarkable to find a piece of silver of such an early date and especially in such excellent condition. This cup follows the standard design for Elizabethan communion cups and is most likely to have been made from pre-reformation silver. It would originally have had a cover (paten). The engraved arabesques to the body are typical for the period. The foot wire has stamped ornament of tongue and dart. Weight 257 grams, 8.2 troy ounces. Height 18 cms. They are both matching but there is an unusual feature – one has a decorative pierced top and the other has an unpierced and engraved top. The cinquefoil frame has 4 shell feet and a shaped decorative cartouche, with matching armorial, to the front. Total weight of silver 1814 grams, 58.3 troy ounces. Castors height 18.5 and 16 cms. The silver bottle tops are unmarked, they are crested and the tops fit perfectly into the silver frame.
There is a hand engraved armorial on the 3 castors and cartouche of the frame and a crest on the top of the oli and vinegar bottles.
