6895 George II Silver Bullet Teapot by John Edwards

A fine antique sterling silver bullet shape teapot. Lovely plain shape with a straight spout and inset hinge. To the front there is a hand engraved armorial. This is a very early teapot. Although a few 17th century teapots exist there is very little likelihood of finding one before 1710. The earlier the teapot the smaller they tend to be as tea was a very expensive commodity until the middle of the reign of George I. Weight 393 grams, 12.6 troy ounces. Height 10.5 cms. Spread 21 cms. A little antique silver cream jug in the form of a model cow. The bee on the cow’s back lifts to fill the jug with cream which is poured out of the cow’s mouth. Very pretty face. An attractive model silver bird with detachable head and glass eyes. Inside there is a silver grill so that the bird can be used as a shaker (possibly for sugar). Beautifully modelled, the bird has very realistic plumage, the wings are applied separately but do not open. Stamped on the head and rim with Dutch silver stamps for 1919.

6717 Pair of Georgian Silver Sauce Tureens with the Royal Windsor Coat of Arms

An exceptionally fine pair of antique sterling silver sauce tureens of oval form on shaped claw feet. The quality and gauge of silver needs to be seen to be believed. Each tureen is decorated with broad shell and gadroon borders and the shell motif is repeated on the handles and feet. Engraved to both sides of each tureen there is a large hand engraved armorial and to each top there’s a double engraved crest. Motto “Je me fie en dieu”. These are the arms of the Windsor family, the royal house of Great Britain. Weight 2599 grams, 83.5 troy ounces. Height 15.5 cms. Spread 24 cms. Length 19 cms. Width 13.5 cms. The lids are numbered 2 and 3, so they are part of a larger set, London 1811. Maker Thomas Robins, known for his good quality dinner wares.

An important piece of early English antique silver. A very large sized sterling silver cup with side handles crowned with faces. The hand beaten finish is typical of this early date and is very appealing. Superb colour. The body is decorated all round with deep relief flowers and foliage, very florid, as you’d expect at this date. To the front and back there is a cartouche containing a hand engraved armorial. Weight 710 grams, 22.8 troy ounces. Diameter 13.75 cms. Height 14.5 cms (15.5 cms to top of handle). London 1661. Very historic – this was made in the 2nd year of Charles II reign after the restoration of the monarchy and 5 years before the Great Fire of London.
