A late-17th/early-18th century Danish silver peg tankard of plain cylindrical form raised on three stylish pomegranate ball feet. Large size and heavy weight. The domed cover is deeply embossed with a decorative border of foliate scrolls around a central hand engraved armorial dated 1701, the scroll handle has a thumb piece modelled as a rampant lion holding a large ball. Large size and good weight. With a plain body the pot has contemporary strapwork mounts and a fluted lid. Particularly nice is the decorative silver mount to the wooden handle and the little hinged flap on the end of the spout. The top has a hinged finial so that the chocolate can be stirred by inserting a swizel stick and the lid is attached to the body with a pin and chain. Contains 900 ml.
