    A little antique silver cream jug in the form of a model cow. The bee on the cow’s back lifts to fill the jug with cream which is poured out of the cow’s mouth. Very pretty face. Weight 124 grams, 3.9 troy ounces. Height 10 cms. Length 14.5 cms. Marked underneath with Dutch silver stamps. Circa 1890

    An excellent quality antique sterling silver mounted box with faceted ruby glass panels and star cut base. In the style of Baccarat. The top is engraved with a stag in a forest scene. To the front there is an aperture, presumably for a spoon, indicating that it is probably for sugar. Height 11 cm. Width 13 cm. Depth 10 cm. The silver mount is stamped with English silver hallmarks for London 1880. Maker Charles Boyton.

    A large antique sterling silver tray of oval form with inset carrying handles. The decorative gallery is attractively pierced with a crisscross design. The underside has a hardwood base making the tray very strong. No inscription. Weight including wood 3364 grams, 108.1 troy ounces. Length 58 cms. Width 39 cms. Marked to the edge of the base rim with full English silver hallmarks for London 1886. Makers mark partially stamped, probably Joseph Angell.

    8145 Antique Silver Travelling Lamp

    Sold

    A fine quality antique sterling silver travelling or carriage lamp by Orton & Houle, neatly designed so that it can be carried for travel. To use the lamp, lift the lid and pull out the hinged front cover to reveal the candle holder behind a glass panel. The lamp can then either be hung from the suspension hooks, or placed standing up by pulling down the base. Next to the base there is a cylindrical vesta case, with a drop down hinged cover for matches and a match striker. A nice feature is the candle holder which has a spring fitting allowing the candle to be pushed up as the candle burns down. Stamped on the main cover with full English silver hallmarks for London 1863. Maker and retailer Ortner & Houle, 3 St James St, SW London.

    A charming antique silver double candlestick in the unusual form of an early 18th century snuffer stand with carrying handle. Heavy gauge silver. The tray is engraved with a flower and scroll trellis design and to the centre there is an armorial with two standing dogs and the crest of a crown. It stands on four pretty little feet. Weight 446 grams, 14.3 troy ounces. Length 20.2 cms. Width 9.2 cms. Spread across handle 16.5 cms. Height 7 cms. Stamped on every piece with French silver marks. Circa 1850.

    A magnificent large antique sterling silver wine jug of elegant shaped form on pedestal foot. The hinged lid, with ornate flower finial, opens by squeezing the handle mechanism. Beautifully chased with flowers, swirls and leaves, the jug has a cartouche to both sides, one with an engraved crest and motto to the centre. To the front there is an applied leopards head and both sides of each cartouche there is a winged figure. Weight 1387 grams, 44.5 troy ounces. Tall height 38 cms. Diameter of foot 12.5 cms. The silver mounts have naturalistic sea spray decoration, the top with a cartouche to the front having engraved initials and the base with the inscription “Bordeaux 1899”. The lid has a shell finial. The glass body has deep swirls which compliment the silver design. Contains 750 ml. Height 29 cms. Diameter of base 8.5 cms. Marked on lid, neck and base with French silver stamps and makers mark RB within a lozenge. Circa 1900.

    A very smart antique silver tray of oval shape with a bevelled glass centre and silver ball feet. The pierced silver gallery has a bead border, interlaced scroll design and inset carrying handles. Underneath the border is reinforced with a brass ring. Length 56.5 cm. Width 42 cm. Height 6 cm. Stamped on the side of the handles with Dutch silver marks and the date letter “L” for 1845. Silver grade 934 (this is purer than sterling silver which is 925 parts out of 1000).

    A handsome antique sterling bowl in the early 18th century style with lions mask side handles, typical ribbed body decoration and decorative cartouches. The shaped rim was monteith style which was originally used to hold stem glasses, punch ladle and lemon squeezer (the top of an original monteith is also detachable). To the front there is an engraved crest of a standing cat with the motto “Touch Not the Cat Bot a Glove”*. To the front there is a presentation inscription**.
