With a deep embossed decoration of flowers, foliage and scrolls, the under-lip has a large face mask. To the front is a cartouche containing a hand engraved family coat of arms, to the reverse there is a family crest. Gilded inside. Contains 2600 ml. Weight 1752 grams, 56.30 troy ounces.     A fantastic decorator’s item. This stylish bar set in the form of a ship’s bucket has a coopered body made of solid wood panels held together with silver plated metal bands and has a chunky rope handle. Holds up to 3 standard wine bottles. The multi-purpose bottom section swivels out and can be used to contain bar items, bottle openers, cigars, playing cards etc. Above the swivel drawer, engraved to the silver plated band, are the British patent numbers “Rd90495 DEPOSE Rd90496”.     A continental silver footed drinking cup with simple tapering form. Very charming hand engraved decoration to the body with shells, flower heads, foliage and scrolls. To the front there is the engraved name “R. Roze”. Contains 180 ml. Weight 88 grams, 2.8 troy ounces. Height 9.7 cms. Diameter 7.5 cms. Stamped on the base with French silver marks and makers lozenge mark. Also stamped on the bottom rim. Circa 1790.

    An antique continental silver cup of tapering form with a shaped base and standing on three ball feet. Charming decoration with embossed flower heads and foliate scrolls. Original faded gilt interior and remaining traces of the gilt exterior. Contains 120 ml. Weight 62 grams, 2 troy ounces. Height 9.5 cms. Diameter 6.5 cms. Stamped underneath with the German town mark “N” for Nuremberg (Nurnberg), makers mark “HH” for Heniel Hamon and an assay scrape. Circa 1700.

    Very rare double walled design. An antique silver muffineer in the traditional lighthouse design so typical of these very early casters. Britannia standard silver*. The cover extends right down to the girdle above the armorial, covering the main body. This lovely castor is of heavy quality and feels good in the hand. To the front there is a hand engraved armorial within a large decorative cartouche. The base is plain styled with fluted borders, the top is simply pierced, the holes are quite large as crushed loaf sugar was still in use at this early date. Unengraved. Weight 391 grams, 12.5 troy ounces. Height 19 cms. Diameter of base 8.5 cms. London 1704. Makers mark for Andrew Raven.

    An imposing antique sterling silver serving dish of oval form. The broad cast border, with shell and gadroon decoration, has deep relief and good, crisp definition. Fantastic quality from top to toe, just as you’d expect from this prestigious English master silversmith.     A rare early English silver cruet with two hexagonal bottles for oil and vinegar and a small single hexagonal castor or pepperette. Excellent weight. Good Huguenot maker. The frame has a shaped side carrying handle, and side supports for the bottle tops and pepperette. Total weight of silver 840 grams, 27 troy ounces. Height 18 cms. Stand London 1716 (Britannia standard silver*), maker Louys Cuny. Pepperette, made later to match, dated London 1727 (sterling silver), makers mark rubbed. His most unusual piece of work is probably the curious triangle salt of the Upholders (upholsterers) Company.

    8739 Antique Charles II Silver Porringer

    A rare piece of early English silver. A large 2 handled antique silver porringer of plain form. The matching cover has a capstan shaped finial so that the lid can be turned upside down and used on its own as a saucer. This has the form of a typical early Restoration porringer, with bellied shape and the lid sitting over the upper rim. There is a small silver support either side next to the handle for the lid to sit on. Hand engraved to the front, and repeated on the cover, are the arms and crest for the Yong family of Medhurst, Sussex. Weight 375 grams, 12 troy ounces. Height 14 cm (total), 10 cm (cup), 4.5 cm (lid). Diameter 10 cm. Spread across the handles 17 cm. London 1675. Makers mark “SR”* in a shield (there are 2 similar marks in Jacksons, see page 124 and 129, bottom of the page), probably Simon Romney.

    A rare early English antique silver chocolate pot with straight tapering sides and domed lid typical of the period. It can also be used for coffee. Britannia standard silver*. Side handle. Large size and good weight. With a plain body the pot has contemporary strapwork mounts and a fluted lid. Particularly nice is the decorative silver mount to the wooden handle and the little hinged flap on the end of the spout. The top has a hinged finial so that the chocolate can be stirred by inserting a swizel stick and the lid is attached to the body with a pin and chain. Contains 900 ml. Weight 735 grams, 23.6 troy ounces. Height 24.5 cms. Base diameter of top 11.1 cms. London 1703. Maker William Lukin.

The matching pair of rectangular caddies (for green and black tea) have sliding tops, the larger square sugar box has a hinged lid. Cast silver flower finials. The deep embossed and engraved decoration is particularly attractive; each caddy has a front and back panel decorated with a Chinese man and garden setting, the side panels with flower and foliage, the corners with shell and fish scale ornament.     A rare matched set of six Hanoverian pattern three pronged forks. Lovely early English style. Each with a matching hand engraved crest to the reverse. One spoon is by David Willaume I, George I reign and made from Britannia* standard silver. The others are from George II reign and made from sterling silver 925 grade. Total weight 372 grams, 11.9 troy ounces. Length 18.5-19 cms (some variation). Mixed dates 1713-1744. Mixed makers, some unidentified.
    Table silver of this date was stamped with “up the handle” silver marks which were punched on the thin central part of the handle and it is not unusual that these stamps are distorted or badly struck and difficult to read.
