    8713 Antique Newcastle Silver Bullet Teapot

    A good example of early English provincial silver. An antique sterling silver bullet shape teapot. Early teapots were of small capacity because of the rarity of tea. Lovely plain shape with a curved spout and engraved decoration to the upper body. The lid has a concentric circle decoration and inside there are some hand engraved marriage initials. Generally speaking bullet teapots were only made during the George II period. Weight 420 grams, 13.5 troy ounces. Height 12.5 cms. Spread 19 cms. Newcastle 1732*. By the prestigious Newcastle maker Isaac Cookson.

    8711 Antique Indian Silver Teapot

    Of colonial interest. A delightful antique silver teapot with embossed decoration all over of a hunting scene. With an elephant finial and stylised elephant handle and spout. The body has an interesting decoration of a jungle inhabited by elephants, lions and wild cows; to one side there is an elephant, with his mahout, and riding on the howdah* a hunter is taking aim at a group of lions, on the other side the man on horseback is shooting a gun and is accompanied by his hunting dog. Weight 547 grams, 17.5 troy ounces. Height 11 (to top of finial). Spread 23.5 cms. Stamped underneath with Indian silver marks for Bombay. Circa 1900.

    An excellent quality antique silver stipple ground beaker of tapering form and plain style, the body with simulated dotted texture. Simple shape with concentric double ribbed detail to the top. Contains 160 ml. Weight 120 grams, 3.8 troy ounces. Height 7.5 cms. Stamped underneath with German silver marks (assay scrape and the pineapple Augsburg town mark). Makers mark “DS” for Dominik Zaler (listed in Rosenberg). Circa 1690.

    A stylish pair of art deco silver candelabra with 3 lights. Excellent plain style with geometric shaped bases inlaid with ivory and ebony. The branches unscrew but the columns cannot be used as candlesticks. Height 41 cms, spread 28 cms. The weight of the branches is 991 grams, 31.8 troy ounces, the bases are filled and therefore cannot be weighed. French silver stamps. Circa 1930.

The handle is modelled as a dragon’s head and curving neck, the body has both engraved and embossed decoration. Contains 200 ml. Weight 247 grams, 7.9 troy ounces. Height 12 cms. Spread 16 cms. Stamped on the top edge of the lid with 2 symbols, probably the makers mark. Circa 1900.

    An early antique German silver dish (or possibly wine taster) of plain oval form with a scalloped border. To the centre there is a charming bird scene surrounded by raised dot decoration. The cast side handles are very pretty. Original interior gilding and a gilt around the top on the outside. Weight 129 grams, 4.1 troy ounces. Height 3 cms (4.5 cms to top of handle). Top of dish measures 16 x 14 cms. Marked on either side of one of the handles with German silver marks for Augsburg and on the inside rim with the makers mark for Hans Jakob Baur. Circa 1650.

Hand engraved to the front there is a large armorial within a decorative cartouche there is a matching crest on the reservoir lid. The matching stand has a cut-work frieze and stands on large shell feet, it has a removable burner well with push on top. Weight 2247 grams, 72.2 troy ounces. Total height 34 cms.     A plain style pair of antique sterling silver asparagus tongs (or chop tongs) with a corrugated inside surface to grip the food. Very simple and clever manufacture that would suit either a left or righted handed person. Weight 114 grams, 3.6 troy ounces. Length 21.5 cms. One side is stamped with the makers initials “IH” and the lion mark; the other side is double struck with the makers mark. Maker probably John Hague, circa 1760.

    A rare and collectable early silver caddy spoon in the form of a jockey cap. It has a ribbed design and a plain centre button with the initial “G” in old fashioned script. Weight 8 grams. Measures 5.5 x 3.8 cms. Birmingham 1798. No maker’s mark* but almost certainly made in Birmingham by Samuel Pemberton.
