A superb quality silver bowl or alms dish by the sought after Huguenot silversmith Paul de Lamerie. Heavy gauge metal and a plain solid foot. The reeded rim has applied shell and scroll ornaments and to the underside there are applied acanthus leaves. The top has a fine quality border of hand engraved motifs with trellis hatching together with a matching inner circle. This work is very typical of Huguenot silver work Weight 722 grams, 23.2 troy ounces. Height 4 cms. Length 27.5 cms. Width 24 cms. London 1730. Maker Paul de Lamerie.

A good early English silver flat top lidded tankard in sterling silver with a scroll handle having a decorative thumb piece. Good patina. Large size. Lovely plain design and hand beaten silver. Uninscribed. Hand engraved at the top of the handle with owner’s initials; above the initials is the date “1777” in prick dots. Contains 1350 ml. Weight 905 grams, 29 troy ounces. A large and handsome antique sterling punch bowl in the early 18th century style with lions mask side handles, typical ribbed body decoration and a decorative cartouche to the front. The shaped scalloped rim is detachable; this is used to hold stem glasses, punch ladle and lemon squeezer and a bowl of this type is referred to as a Monteith. The applied lions mask mounts and paw feet are of excellent quality. Each has, to the front and back, a large hand engraved armorial supported by a lion and griffin. The motto “Sic Donec” means “So Until”. Total weight 2249 grams, 72.3 troy ounces. Top rim measures 25.5 x 20.5 cms. Height 9 cms. London 1819. A fine pair of antique sterling silver serving dishes with matching cushion shape covers and magnificent detachable lion mounted ring handles. Elegant plain styling with a broad band of ribbing and gadroon borders. Excellent quality and good gauge silver as you’d expect from this world famous English silversmith. The covers are mounted front and back with royal armorial plaques having the motto “Honi Soit Qui Mal YPense” and the crest of a centaur holding a bow and arrow. These are the arms of the Fitzmaurice family (the Marquesses of Lansdowne). The same armorial is hand engraved to the front and back of the bases. Silver weight 4021 grams, 129 troy ounces. A stylish telescopic solid gold ruler with an ivory button dating from the 1920s era. The measure opens out into 3 sections measuring one imperial foot in length. When closed the ruler shows the measure 11.5 cms, 4.5 inches; when open it measures 30.5 cms, 12 inches. On one side there is the inscription “One Thousand Square Miles” and on the reverse there is a presentation inscription in script dated 2/2/25. Weight 23 grams (including button).
