    8841 George III Silver Entre Dishes by Paul Storr

    A fine pair of antique sterling silver serving dishes with matching cushion shape covers and magnificent detachable lion mounted ring handles. Elegant plain styling with a broad band of ribbing and gadroon borders. Excellent quality and good gauge silver as you’d expect from this world famous English silversmith. The covers are mounted front and back with royal armorial plaques having the motto “Honi Soit Qui Mal YPense” and the crest of a centaur holding a bow and arrow. These are the arms of the Fitzmaurice family (the Marquesses of Lansdowne). The same armorial is hand engraved to the front and back of the bases. Silver weight 4021 grams, 129 troy ounces. Height 15.5 cms. (to top of handle). Base measures 26.5 x 22 cms. London 1810. Maker Paul Storr.

    An exceptional pair of antique German silver table ornaments in the form of large model knights in armour, each astride a galloping horse. These are particularly nice examples in terms of size and also the quality of workmanship. Weight 1490 and 1507 grams, total weight 2997 grams, 96.3 troy ounces. Height 30 cms. Spread 37.5 cms including the lance. Base 20.5 x 10 cms. Marked on top of the base with German silver marks crown and moon, and Germany. Makers mark “n” for Neresheimer. Circa 1900.

    A stylish telescopic solid gold ruler with an ivory button dating from the 1920s era. The measure opens out into 3 sections measuring one imperial foot in length. When closed the ruler shows the measure 11.5 cms, 4.5 inches; when open it measures 30.5 cms, 12 inches. On one side there is the inscription “One Thousand Square Miles” and on the reverse there is a presentation inscription in script dated 2/2/25. Weight 23 grams (including button).     A rare and stunning set of antique dessert cutlery made from antique Japanese kosuka handles with English sterling silver blades. 36 pieces, 18 knives and 18 forks, all fitted in a solid wood box with velvet lining. The shibuichi* metal handles are very beautiful; with bronze, copper, silver and gold patination and having raised, inlaid decorative motifs such as figures, fish, dragons etc; some are very interesting such as the man ploughing a field with a horse, fishermen at sea in a boat. Knives – length 21 cms, Sheffield 1900, maker Allen & Darwin. Forks – length 18 cms (1 fork is 17 cms), Sheffield 1898, maker George Edward & Sons. The handles are earlier, most likely circa 1880.
