    8654 Antique Silver Knights on Horse Back

    A fantastic pair of antique German silver table ornaments in the form of large model knights in armour, each astride a galloping horse. Gilded silver (slightly worn) with jewelled beads. The knights have carved bakalite faces and helmets with hinged visors which can be opened and closed; in the right hand they each hold a jousting pole, or lance, and in the left they clasp the horse’s reins. The models are very intricate with many separate pieces assembled together. The bases have a naturalist finish. Although similar in size and stance, these models have slight differences. One horse carries a plume on the crest of its head whereas the other sports a bird figure on the head. Weight 1405 and 1411 grams, total weight 2816 grams, 90.5 troy ounces. Height 25 and 25.5cm. Spread 20cm excluding the lance. Base 16 x 8cm. Maker Johann S Kurz. Hanau, Germany. Circa 1880.

    A fine antique sterling silver coffee pot and matching stand by the world famous Paul Storr. Fantastic quality. The bamboo style ivory handle mounted with a silver serpent to the top and a snake’s head and motif to the bottom are very characteristic of this prestigious English master silversmith. There is a hand engraved crest to the front of the pot and also the reservoir and wick holder. Contains 1320 ml. Weight 1536 grams, 49.3 troy ounces. Total height 26 cms. From the Matthew Boulton and John Fothergill partnership and made in 1773, the first year of the Birmingham assay office. Good weight. The cinquefoil frame has 4 shell feet and a shaped decorative cartouche to the front with a hand engraved monogram. The pull off castor tops are prettily pierced and engraved. Total weight of silver 1189 grams, 38.2 troy ounces. Caster height 17 and 13.5 cms. Bottles height 17 cms. London 1752. All by the same maker Samuel Wood, known for his silver casters.

    Antique Newcastle provincial silver. A rare antique sterling silver tea caddy box of plain oval form, the fixed carrying handle having a reed and acanthus decoration. Lovely classic style. The unusual double opening lid has an inset hinge and there is a lock to either side (no key). The tea box has borders of crisp hand engraving bright cut dots, scrolls and foliage; both ends with an empty foliate cartouche. Weight 649 grams, 20.8 troy ounces.     A rare pair of antique sterling silver sauceboats having a plain circular shape on an oval pedestal foot. Single lip. Extremely large and heavy weight. This is a very early date for a silver sauceboat, the first were introduced into England in circa 1715 and had a double lip, the single lipped boats started to appear circa 1730. An unusual feature is the model lion head at the top of the handle. Each jug has a hand engraved crest of a ship to one side, a lion crest to the other side. Good colour. Each contains 450 ml.     An antique gilt silver bowl of large size and exceptionally heavy weight; this excellent quality is just as you’d expect from a master silversmith trained by the world famous Paul Storr. Raised on a pedestal foot and having hinged lions mask side handles, this oval wine cooler takes two bottles. The deep relief applied decoration is covered in grape and vine leaf ornament, the centre ovals have a Bacchanalian scene with cherubs, a goat and an impish Bacchus, to either side there is a large bird and dolphin.
