    An ornate antique silver box having 3 compartments with double hinged lids. The body is heavily chased with flowers and leaves and the handles are formed as a flower head and leaf. Excellent quality and weight. The tall centre finial acts as a locking mechanism and the lids won’t open until this has been unscrewed and removed. Unmarked silver. Circa 19th century. Probably Indian.

    A handsome antique sterling silver pedestal bowl of circular form with half ribbed body and egg and dart border. Excellent quality and heavy gauge silver. This form is very similar to the Warwick Vase shape. The cast wrythen side carrying handles are embellished with vine leaf and grape ornament making it, together with its weight and campana form, very suitable for use as a small size wine cooler. Hand engraved to the front is an armorial within a shield, and to the reverse there is a crest of a leopard. Weight 1646 grams, 52.9 troy ounces. Height 19.5 cms. Diameter 19.5 cms. Spread 29.5 cms.     A handsome antique sterling bowl in the early 18th century style with lions mask side handles, typical ribbed body decoration and decorative cartouches. The shaped rim was monteith style which was originally used to hold stem glasses, punch ladle and lemon squeezer (the top of an original monteith is also detachable). To the front there is an engraved crest of a standing cat with the motto “Touch Not the Cat Bot a Glove”*. To the front there is a presentation inscription**. The quality of this piece is excellent and the most imposing feature is the graceful curved spout in the form of a horse’s head. Every attention has been paid to detail with broad decorative borders, applied mounts to the ends of the handle and base of the spout, and a large bird finial. Engraved on the base with an initial. Each set consists of a sterling silver fork, spoon and steel knife, all with a handle which unscrews, a silver handled travelling corkscrew and a three section sterling silver condiment barrel. All contained in a sterling silver beaker with all over engine turned decoration. Each piece is silver hallmarked for London 1866 and has monogram engraved in old fashioned script. Excellent heavy quality and attention to detail as you’d expect from this top quality silver company. The pierced dishes have a broad, peacock tail decorated border which mingles with the inner gothic design. The column is monumental, superbly decorated, and finishes at the base with four protruding lions masks. The heavy circular base repeats the above theme and also has four lions head masks.     A rare and delightful antique scent bottle with a decorative gold mount. Excellent quality. In the original fitted box. The beautiful gold mounted top has a hand engraved design with a classical Greek key border and scroll work additions, inside the hinged top there is a small glass stopper. The oval shaped body is made of multi faceted rock crystal and typically of the period, has a rounded base which was made to lie down. Bottle height 10 cms. Width 4.25 cms. Stamped on the mount with a small Dutch gold mark, circa 1860.

    8145 Antique Silver Travelling Lamp

    Sold

    A fine quality antique sterling silver travelling or carriage lamp by Orton & Houle, neatly designed so that it can be carried for travel. To use the lamp, lift the lid and pull out the hinged front cover to reveal the candle holder behind a glass panel. The lamp can then either be hung from the suspension hooks, or placed standing up by pulling down the base. Next to the base there is a cylindrical vesta case, with a drop down hinged cover for matches and a match striker. A nice feature is the candle holder which has a spring fitting allowing the candle to be pushed up as the candle burns down. Stamped on the main cover with full English silver hallmarks for London 1863. Maker and retailer Ortner & Houle, 3 St James St, SW London.
