    7534 Antique Silver Dessert Stand by Garrard

    A magnificent antique sterling silver dumb waiter standing tall with a decorative column mounted with 2 graduated serving plates. Excellent heavy quality and attention to detail as you’d expect from this top quality silver company. The pierced dishes have a broad, peacock tail decorated border which mingles with the inner gothic design. The column is monumental, superbly decorated, and finishes at the base with four protruding lions masks. The heavy circular base repeats the above theme and also has four lions head masks. Weight 2406 grams, 77.3 troy ounces. Height 45cm. Diameter of plates 23/28cm. Every piece marked London 1845. Maker Robert Garrard, appointed crown jewellers to Queen Victoria.

    A good quality antique silver stipple ground beaker of tapering form and plain style, the body with simulated dotted texture. Simple shape with concentric double ribbed detail to the top. Original light gilt interior. Weight 117 grams, 3.7 troy ounces. Height 8 cms. Marked underneath with assay scrape and “N” Nurnberg town mark. Makers mark P (listed in Rosenberg, no name given).     A pretty 19th century claret jug with decorative silver mount and pedestal foot. Original gilt inside the lid. The silver mounts have naturalistic sea spray decoration, the top with a cartouche to the front having engraved initials and the base with the inscription “Bordeaux 1899”. The lid has a shell finial. The glass body has deep swirls which compliment the silver design. Contains 750 ml. Height 29 cms. Diameter of base 8.5 cms. Marked on lid, neck and base with French silver stamps and makers mark RB within a lozenge. Circa 1900.

These heavy dishes resemble from the top a giant circular flower petal with a single flower embossed to alternate segments.     7471 Antique Silver and "Raeren" Stoneware Jug

    An antique English amphora jug or vase in the manner of Jan Emens Mennicken, German, 1540–1593, the body with decorative armorial medallions dated 1588 and 1594, the 3 handles dated 1590. With a sterling silver foot and collar and a detachable silver lid. This jug was in the collection of Sir Charles Jackson, the author of the esteemed book on English silver hallmarks. Height 38 cms. Spread across handles 18 cms. Diameter of base 12 cms. Makers mark only – “IM” over a billet and pellet. The silver marks are recorded in Jacksons for 1594 however the vase is a later copy circa 1890 by Hubert Schiffer. Schiffer ran a small workshop in Raeren specialising in copies of renaissance originals. Examples of his work are rare and were often damaged on purpose to make them look ‘authentic’. There is a similar vase in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (see accompanying documentation).

    Literature: Sir Charles Jackson: ‘An Illustrated History of English Plate’, published 1911, vol. II, page 781, figure 1015, where the author compares the makers mark to that on the communion flagon at Westwell.

    A handsome antique sterling silver cup with matching cover and wooden stand. Bright original gilt interior to cup and cover. The decoration is particularly good with deep relief chased flowers, leaves and scrolls and there’s a large cartouche to front and back with a crest and a military inscription from the Bath Troop N.S.Y.C 1893.     A medium size antique bowl in the Queen Anne style with a detachable shaped rim and lions mask side carrying handles. Lovely ribbed body with decorative cartouches to front and back. The rim is very charming with shaped scrolls and face decoration. This bowl was originally used to hold stem glasses, punch ladle and lemon squeezer. Height 18.5 cms. Diameter 20.5 cms. Circa 1880.     Stunning quality. A rare pair of antique sterling silver campaign dining sets, cleverly dismountable, so that everything fits inside the matching drinking cup. Each set consists of a sterling silver fork, spoon and steel knife, all with a handle which unscrews, a silver handled travelling corkscrew and a three section sterling silver condiment barrel. All contained in a sterling silver beaker with all over engine turned decoration. Each piece is silver hallmarked for London 1866 and has monogram engraved in old fashioned script.
