Trays aren’t found dated earlier than circa 1785 so this is one of the earliest trays ever made.

An excellent little early antique silver sparrow beak jug with a tall slim body and pedestal foot. Sterling silver. Good plain style and nice weight. Small size silver cream jugs without lids were only introduced in the 1720’s so this is probably one of the earliest silver cream jugs ever made. To the front are some hand engraved initials. An antique dish cover of curved rectangular form in Old Sheffield plate. Good size. Handsome plain design with a gadroon ring border and decorative handle. Hand engraved to both sides is a lion crest on a chequered background within a decorative cartouche – all within an inset silver shield. Lovely crisp borders. Height 25 cms. Length 40 cms. Width 31 cms. Marked inside the handle with the double sun mark for Matthew Boulton, probably the most well known of all Old Sheffield plate makers. Circa 1820.

A rare and important early English silver bowl from the pre Queen Anne period. Large size with charmingly quaint lions mask drop ring handles and the ribbed body decoration typical for this period. To the front there is a large hand engraved armorial set within a plummage scroll cartouche. Around the top there is a band of engraved leaves and fish scale chasing. Britannia standard silver*. A rare form of this highly collectible item modelled as a lady with a crinoline dress with a beautifully engraved skirt. However, to the other side the figure has the face of a man. The cup is hinged with long arms which swivels so that the top half rotates under which there is a second small cup. This can then be used as a traditional marriage cup. Weight 54 grams, 1.7 troy ounces. Height 7 cms. Diameter of base cup 4 cms. Spread when open 10.5 cms. Marked around the base with a Dutch control mark. Circa 1900.

A nice feature is the little hinged flap on the end of the spout. The matching stand has a turned wooden handle and a fixed integral burner with a detachable wick holder. An attractive crystal decanter and stopper with lock and key. The body is half thumbnail cut, half plain and has star cut base. The neck has a sterling silver collar with a padlock attached. There is a hinged retaining clip which secures the glass stopper in position – the two ends of the clip fit side by side around the little bracket on the decanter neck so that the padlock can slot through the 3 holes (see photo). Just turn the key to lock or unlock the padlock. Height 24.5 cms. Base 9 x 9 cms square. London 1931. Maker Walter Groves.

Very solid and heavy cast metal with knopped and baluster vase shaped stems and square hollowed out bases with canted corners. Each bears matching two crests and mottos (only traces), possibly marriage crests. One motto, although indistinct, reads ‘True To The End’. Excellent colour.
