A rare early English antique sterling silver cruet set with a matching set of 3 silver castors with hand engraved armorials and 2 silver and faceted crystal oil and vinegar bottles. The cinquefoil frame has 4 ball feet and a simple circular shaped cartouche, with the same hand engraved armorial, to the front. The first cruets stands had a much simpler design which evolved several years later into the more elaborate Warwick cruet shape with rococo cartouche and shell feet. An unusual sterling silver goblet with a globular bowl raised on a tall slender column. Attractive embossed decoration of a dragon curled around the outside. Weight 201 grams, 6.4 troy ounces. Height 17 cm. Diameter of top 5.25 cm. Stamped underneath with Chinese silver marks for Luen Wo, Shanghai. The artisan workshop mark is YI AN 饴安. Circa 1900.

7776 Antique German Silver Neff Sailing Ship
Sold

This is a superb solid silver galleon ship, known as a Nef), with a tall mast having multi section sails, a manned crows nest and rigging. The deck is beautifully modelled with people and equipment – to the rear the captain is steering the ship’s wheel with a lantern behind him, and on the prow a sailor is standing next to the ships cannon, the anchor hangs below. Around the edge of the deck there is a pierced gallery decorated with cherubs and flowers.

The top section of the Neff can be removed from the hull. The hull of the ship is finely chased with cherubs and leaves, flowers and scrolls and the interior is gilded. The ship stands on four decorative wheels.

Weight 577 grams, 18.5 troy ounces. Height 24.5 cms. Spread 25 cms. Top of the hull measures 18 x 6 cms. The hull has a set of German hallmarks with maker’s mark for Neresheimer. The bottom edge of the top section has the silver grade “13”. Circa 1900.

The scene is of a classical figure with a pastoral background surrounded by a border of fruit topped by 2 reclining figures, 2 lions to the side and a cherub’s head at the bottom. It has the early form with a flat teardrop handle and broad drip pan. Each piece (excluding knives and fish cutlery) has an engraved crest and motto “Nil Sine Labore”. All in a marvellous fitted wooden box in the form of a miniature bureau with inlays and serpentine front. Weight excluding knives and fish cutlery 4368 grams, 140.4 troy ounces.
