A very fine quality pair of antique Viennese carved ivory figures, studded with gemstones, and mounted on enamelled silver pedestal bases. Each figure carries a silver and enamel wickerwork pannier and holds a silver basket filled with hardstone fruits. The man also holds a pearl and gemstone mounted silver walking stick. The enamelled silver bases are studded with large stones and mounted with dark blue hardstone tops. Height 23.5/21.5cm. Base 11.5 x 11cm. Silver marked with Austrian control marks. An early antique silver coffee pot (or chocolate pot) with domed lid and wooden side handle. Dates from the first year of George I’s reign. Britannia standard* silver. Elegant plain style with simple reed borders and the straight lined octagonal shape is a very rare and desirable feature. The decorative strapwork handle supports are also functional as Britannia standard silver is purer and therefore a softer silver. To the front is a stylised monogram in old fashioned script (later engraved). Weight 669 grams, 21.5 troy ounces. Height 24.5 cm. Diameter of base 10.6cm. London 1715. Maker indistinct.

A rare early English chalice dating to the reign of Elizabeth I. A very early date and in very good condition. This cup follows the standard design for Elizabethan communion cups and is most likely to have been made from pre-reformation silver. It has straight tapering sides and would originally have had a cover (paten). Charmingly hand beaten finish as you’d expect at this date. Very plain design. The foot wire has stamped ornament of tongue and dart, typical of the period, and further wire ornament is applied to the stem. Contains 320 ml. Weight 248 grams, 7.9 troy ounces. Height 18.5cm. Diameter of top 8.6cm. Extremely good silver marks for London 1571. Maker Andrew Kemp (Jackson’s Gold & Silver Marks page 93), known for making communion cups. Sterling silver.

Literature. Brandy Saucepans made their first appearance in this country during the Queen Anne period and continued to be made until the mid 19th century. Some have spouts. The size varies but generally the early examples tend to be smaller. Sometimes they have three legs, these are called skillets, and they are quite rare.

A charming little 17th century silver dish with scalloped sides and shaped side handles. The centre is embossed with a single flower stem picked out with prick dot engraving. Bold flowers, including poppies and daffodils were very popular during the mid to late 17th century. The gilt finish appears original and there is a gilt band to the outer edge. Owner’s initials “SW” engraved to one side, “EK” to the other. Weight 72 grams, 2.3 troy ounces. Width across handles 16cm. Height 2.8/3.8cm. Diameter 13cm. A top quality antique silver strainer dish of oval form with a plain border. Excellent design and the quality you’d expect from this world famous English silversmith. Hand engraved to the centre with an armorial and the crest “Deo Regi Patria” for Duncombe impaling Campbell. The mazarine is designed to be used on top of an oval platter so that the decorative piercing would allow the juices to drain onto the platter below.
